How to Decorate a Mermaid

Posted by Anne Yorks on Wednesday, September 30, 2015

Before we jump into this week's video - I want to be sure you heard my big news! I have a new Craftsy class that launched this week - Celebrate with Cookies! It features 19 of my favorite designs for birthday, wedding, baby, sports, princess and Christmas! Save 50% on my class - click here!

Also, in other news...last weekend I hung out with 450 cookie decorators at CookieCon! I'll have a blog recap available soon! It was a really fun weekend!

In the meantime, I have a video of one of my favorite cookie designs. The Mermaid!

To create this design, I use a sundae dish cookie cutter. I love when one shape becomes something else totally different. And since I wanted to create a mermaid with BIG hair, this cutter worked perfectly. (as far as I know this cutter is no longer available, but we do carry a small sundae dish here)

Here's the video...

I decorate cookies using royal icing and a recipe with tips is in our royal icing tutorial. We also have a NEW cookie rolling and baking tutorial video. Check it out!

I used a few different decorating tips to create the mermaid.

Most of the outlining and details are done with tip #2.

I used a Wilton star tip #13 to create the pink seashells.

And the mini leaf tip #65s for the pink flower in her hair.

That scales stencil is new to the shop and is available here.

I hope you enjoyed this design!!

Happy Decorating!
