Reindeer Hello Kitty

Posted by Anne Yorks on Sunday, November 27, 2011

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend! I really enjoyed the day: the Macy's Parade with my family and turkey dinner with Topher's. Our day was packed with love, laughter and lots and LOTS of great food! Then we spent our weekend cleaning and decorating the house for Christmas!!!!!!! I'm just a tiny bit excited for Christmas this year.

Oh, and did I mention I started my holiday baking? I did...and I have a nice list of must-make cookie ideas! Each year we do homemade gifts for our family, plus cookies and treats for parties and other holiday events. Since I'm still taking time off from orders (I'm still on my maternity leave), I have a little more flexibility to play around with cookie designs this year.

Like this one...inspiration from a pair of my 4-year-old's pajama pants...

This Hello Kitty Reindeer was super fun to make. I know a few Hello Kitty fans, so this cookie idea was at the top of my list.

I didn't have a cookie cutter for this exact shape, so I used a tombstone from Halloween and added a snowy scene in the background.

I did two layers of snow. The first layer I double flooded into the blue background. Then I added some raised snowflakes after the background was dry. I thought it made for a nice snowy effect.

For this cookie I decided to play around with a black outline instead of making each icing color it's own outline.

Let me explain what I mean. Take a look at this Little Red Riding Hood cookie.

Each section of this cookie is outlined with it's coordinating color.

I'm not sure which method I like better, but the black outline seemed a little bit easier. I only had to mix one color for the outline, instead of five. I had only one icing bag for clean up instead of five.

Here are my kitties outlined on top of the snowy background.

Then I filled in each section...

I started with white head, ears, feet, and hands.

Then I added the pale yellow bow and light blue collar and hood.

I filled the brown antlers and the dark blue jacket. After drying, the only thing left to do was add the detail.

She got some buttons, her whiskers, eyes and nose. But no mouth.

Then I got to wondering. Why doesn't Hello Kitty have a mouth????

According to the official Sanrio.com site: Hello Kitty speaks from her heart. She’s Sanrio's ambassador to the world and isn't bound to any particular language.

I am sure if Hello Kitty could speak, she would wish you a wonderful start to the holiday season!!

As do I!

Have a sweet week!!
