Red, White, and BOOM!

You're going to have a BLAST making these fun Patriotic cookies.

Layering stencils always makes an impressive cookie, but with minimal work! You can do this!

This tutorial includes a step-by-step look at all FIVE Patriotic cookies perfect for all those summer picnics.

Cookie Yield

For a single batch of dough, you can make about 20 of the 4 regular sized cookies (about 5 of each) and 12 of the mini stars. I should note that I roll my cookies to 1/4" thick using the Dough EZ Rolling Mat System. The thickness of your cookies will impact your yield.

You might just want to make an entire platter of Hot Dog cookies.

Prepping the Royal Icing

This is the beautiful color wheel from this set.

ICING PREP

This set features 5 gels to make the 7 needed icing colors. I used the Super Red and Buckeye Brown to make that perfect hot dog color. I used the Royal Blue in two different shades (light and royal blue).

Check out the icing guide below for tips on making the right colors and an estimate of how much of each color you'll need.

For a single batch of dough, I typically use a single batch of icing. Since I'm using a KitchenAid mixer, I made a double batch of icing and split it in half (reserving half for another project).

ICING GUIDE

The Patriotic cookie set has 5 gels/7 icing colors.

ICING PLAN BY THE OUNCE

Here is what I suggest making for a single batch.

Lemon Yellow - 1 oz (20-second only with tip #3)
Super Red - 3 oz (pipe and flood)

Bright White - 4 oz (pipe and flood)
Royal Blue - 3 oz (pipe and flood)
Light Blue - 3 oz (pipe and flood)
Buckeye Brown - 3 oz (pipe and flood)
Hot Dog (Super Red + Buckeye Brown) - 3 oz (pipe and flood)

These amounts are ESTIMATES. When it comes to how much icing to make, l don't measure exactly...I estimate. For a more detailed look at icing planning, CLICK HERE to read this helpful blog post.
